Resolved Question: Cheap countries to fly from the Washington DC area?
I've recently been invited to a spur of the moment trip in the region between Mexico and South America :) The person I'm going with said that the location is flexible and if there's anywhere I want to go, then we'll go. Since I only have two or three weeks to work extra shifts to make some spare money, I wanted to try to find a place that has cheap flights from my location so I'll have more to spend while there. This is really an opinion based question. Tell me what your favorite island is! Suggest deals. Whatever. I know my pal wants to Scuba dive, so anywhere that has good scuba diving would be awesome. Thanks for your help!

Resolved Question: Honeymoon ideas for May/June near NY State?
My fiance and I are trying to figure out what to do for our honeymoon next year and can't seem to agree on anything. We seem to have complete opposite opinions on what the perfect honeymoon would be. We are both into archery and riding our motorcycles and adore the outdoors but that is where the similarities end. I adore adventure and trying new things such as scuba diving or snorkeling, whale watching or swimming with dolphins, hot air ballooning, wildlife safari. He likes to hunt and fish and may go for some nice of wildlife expedition, but he will not fly or receive on a big boat that goes out into deep waters. He is into war history and loves anything to do with guns, motorcycles, and atv's but isn't as open minded as I am about trying new things. So I am looking for a location within driving distance of the Finger Lakes in NY. We are figuring on about 5 to 7 days for our honeymoon and I don't want to spend more than a days worth of driving one way. Any suggestions that may cater a little to both of us would be greatly appreciated!

Open Question: What is the best SCUBA dive light?
I am looking for something as bright as possible (at least 1000 to 2000 lumens). A reasonably wide angle would be nice too. The absolute minimum burn time cannot be less than 1 hour on full power. I have been considering either Tovatec By Intova Meganova 2000 Lumens Torch (http://www.leisurepro.com/Catalog.aspx?op=ItemDisplay&ProductID=INTMG&Page=1&Term=tovatec&Hit=1 or http://www.intova.net/products/meganova/), Big Blue 1000 Lumens LED Diving BB-1X30 Light (http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/BBLLBB1.html?&& or http://bigbluedivelights.com/products-detail.asp?REC_ID=15), or Tusa TUL-1000 LED LIGHT (http://www.leisurepro.com/Catalog.aspx?op=ItemDisplay&ProductID=TBTTUL1&Sort=Price&DescSort=1&Page=1&Term=tusa%20light&Hit=1 or http://www.tusa.com/store/tul1000-dive-light-p-297-c-15_31.html). I like the pistol grip as opposed to the lantern, and think that I would also prefer an LED, but I'm not too worried about those features. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Open Question: Can anyone recommend these travel insurance companies?
My girlfriend and I are taking a 6 month+ trip around the world, largely Asia. It includes Australia, New Zealand and a short cease off in the States. We won't be doing much 'adventuring', just backpacking, but might toss in a bungee jump or some scuba diving. We're booking our RTW ticket with STA Travel and their insurance looks comprehensive, if a little expensive. I've had cheaper quotes from the following and was wondering if anyone has had any good or bad experience making a claim from any of them? - World Nomads (as expensive as STA but seems to be highly recommended) - Insurewithease.com (cheapest by far but might have limited cover) - Essential Travel (pretty cheap and limits seem decent) We'll be taking stuff like cameras and a tiny netbook, plus mobiles. Other than that it'll be the usual backpacking gear. Thanks in advance! DB Any guidance here would be much appreciated!

Resolved Question: can fish appear out of nowhere? I mean like in body of water?
I saw some fish in a water stream in the region of Tozer in the south of Tunisia and people told me nobody knows where it comes from. Yesterday, I saw some tiny fish in a water stream in Qibili, Tunisia and I wasn't sure it was fish or tadpoles but the way the were swimming is closer to fish than tiny frogs(I spend hours scuba-diving in summer so I recognize a fish when I look one). So any ideas? There's no other body of water that has fish close by. and in Tunisia we don't have lots of rivers and lakes and fresh water fish is rare in them. this region is a salty swamp that spreads on tens of square kilometers.

Voting Question: Would this be an Anecdote?
Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest flame. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and facemask. A post-mortem revealed that the person died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then set about to determine how a fully clad diver ended up in the middle of a forest flame. It was revealed that on the day of the flame, the person went for a diving trip off the coast some 20 miles from the forest. The firefighters, seeking to control the flame as quickly as possible, called in a fleet of helicopters with very big dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and then flown to the forest flame and emptied. You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the next he was doing the breaststroke in a flame dip pail 300 feet in the air. Apparently he extinguished exactly 5'10" of the flame. Some days it just doesn't pay to receive out of bed. This article was taken from the California Examiner, March 20, 1998. (But its fake) Would this be an anecdote?

Voting Question: Anyone else have troubles with ear pressure equalization?
My right ear won't equalize during scuba diving. I've had problems with it for years on airplanes and mountains, but those weren't as pressing situations as this... I know I'm doing the Valsalva maneuver correctly, because my left ear will pop with no problem whatsoever. The right one doesn't pop, is painful on descent, slowly equalizes to the pressure in the water while I'm on the bottom, and then on ascent, it hurts, gives me vertigo, and makes this very noisy, high pitched squealing sound as I receive about 5 feet from the surface. (I'm guessing this is only my perception; no one else has commented on the odd noises coming from me :P) I'm just getting started with diving, and if I can't hit the water for a month or two after getting it treated, I'll just finish my 15 foot training dives in the pool, receive it treated, THEN receive certified on the open water. I'm seeing an ENT doctor about it sometime soon, but I'd like to know what might be wrong. Anyone with similar experiences? Thanks.

Resolved Question: Can I get advice from you respectable ladies?
Long story short.... I meet this girl at my scuba course today, Friday, I have sat and Sunday to make a move. I really like her. She iis so chilly and down earth. The thing is her family comes from money, my family has money but not on her level you know. I'm 21 and working as a heavy machinery operator she 19 is in college for marine biology and is a dmc (dive master candidate). I got some looks from her and she sort of tried to talk to me about where we are going diving tomorrow which she should have asked her boss since I'm just in the course. But I was icy and sleepy and just wanted to go home so I might of blew her off with out thinking about it. I didn't really say too much to her. What do I do?????

Resolved Question: How to become an astronaut?
Hi, I'm nearly 15 and will be going into year 11 next year I will probably be studying chemistry, physics, biology, math(1or2 of them?) and literature because I have too :) So I was wondering what would be best if I wanted to try become an astronaut, I know it sounds stupid but either way I would like a career in science( not sure what) and have always had the idea of being an astronaut but always believed it was unachievable, however I recently found out that NASA takes applications from civilians. So I have read every about the prerequisites on their website and know you must be an American citizen whilst I live in Australia. I was wondering how many years does a bachelors degree take on average, does an Australian university count as an accredited institution, where would I find some opportunities to gain experience in my field, about how expensive is it to receive a private pilots licence and to receive SCUBA diving licence( both for when I'm older and I can keep for now) could I learn some Russian online(any good sites that tutor well), now I understand how competitive it is when applying but do you have any ideas on how to market myself in the future? every these things I would adore to do and its just an extra that it could potentially guide to a good resume when applying :) I really adore science but am very unsure of what field to go into so if any of you know a way I could figure out what I like of what jobs might be available for me in that field it would be very appreciated :) Also you may understand what I'm talking about more if you read this: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/pdf/606877main_FS-2011-11-057-JSC-astro_trng.pdf Thankyou so much for any help :D Thanks for the answers but I'm pretty sure they are still sending Astronauts to space but in Russian shuttles also I do receive how rediculous this every sounds but I think it would be pretty good to be able to study what I adore and receive a job I adore that also happens to be pretty good on the application form I wouldn't middle my life around it but if what I do happens to put me in a good place it can't hurt to apply in what 10 years time?

Resolved Question: Can you scuba dive with a pulled groin?
I pulled my groin about a month ago (it was a grade 3 tug). It still hurts to run, but I am able to walk now without it hurting. I know I can do any activity as long as it doesn't hurt. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tried it.
